More precisely, a Hip Hop built of French language lyrics laid on top of traditional break beats and elaborate samples. MC Solaar (photo: right; real name Claude M'barali) was born in Dakar in Senegal in 1969 and moved to France as a young child. When he arrived in Paris, he lived in the suburb called Villeneuve St Georges. In France, he was interested in literature, music and the TV, and at an early age, started rapping. His success came from his first single in 1991, a song called Caroline which reached number one. His debut album, "Qui séme le vent recolte le tempo" also released in 1991 was quite influential on French rap music, as rappers used his style as a basis for their music. Elements of American hip hop culture, such as graffiti art and breakdancing, diffused into Western Europe in the early 1980s. The first German hip hop artists emerged in the mid-1980s as part of an underground music scene. Early underground artists included Cora E. and Advanced Chemistry. It was not until the early 1990s that German hip hop entered the mainstream, as groups like Die Fantastischen Vier and the Rödelheim Hartreim Projekt gained popularity. • I'd think the UK, but that may just be because I only speak English
  • While travelling in Europe, I was surprised at the choice of music. One, they played a lot of music that was older, that I had not heard since my childhood. I enjoyed this. They also seemed to enjoy techno dance music and the favorite song (this was 2 years agao) was Shakira's song about her hips don't lie. I don't find that song very appealling and was ready to scream if I heard it again. I really didn't hear much if any hip hop music.
  • Germans are not so bad, for example DJ Tomekk worked with lots of US rappers. The English make good hip-hop too, like Roots Manuva and Dizzie Rascal or 2Ban. DJ Vadim is from Russia, really heavy stuff (in English). I like Hungarian Underground hip-hop too, but I know the language. Other Eastern European countries make really good underground hip-hop too. The best of the best comes from France. The realest hip-hop scene by far. Mafia K-1 Fry, NTM, Psy 4 de la Rime, Fonkey Family just to name a few groups.
  • I think you must to listen Ceza and Sagopa Kajmer..They are Turkish and the best rapper of Turkey but most of their songs are Turkish :( in addition that,in Jay Leno's programme,Eminem said "In Europe,French and German rappers are really good. 2 or 3 times i listen Ceza.I think he is not bad"...
