Should persistant offenders of violent crime be sent to fight wars? Instead of going to prison.

No. The most important thing about soldiers is that they are under control: that they fight only when it is necessary and stop as soon as it is not necessary. Those who fight when there is no need would be at very great risk of committing atrocities on or near the battlefield.

No, because they won't be reliable soldiers. They'll endanger the lives of those who volunteered.

Hell yeah, get a Starcraft-style military going on... Weld violent criminals into huge powered suits of armour, give them a big gun, ship them off to other planets and fight some nasty wars! ... Or just put them in jail, which makes far more sense and is at least morally acceptable ; )

Yeah! Then they get to kill people and do a service to society. By A: Ridding them of unwanted invaders and B: Dying in the process and getting of societies back!

No. Consider, what does that say for us as a society? We steep lower than the offender. Human rights of the offender are egregiously violated. A potential death sentence for every one of them. In a short while, all of the dangerous missions would be given to the inmates. Studies would conclude that the government should expand the program. Suddenly, civil rights riots break out in Washington, lawsuits are delayed in courts as people die. The United Nations condemns the US for these actions. Where would the line be for you? How violent is violent enough? How persistent is persistent? Who should choose? Obviously this may be a state-by-state choice... what will happen on the college campuses of Massachusetts when Texas jumps at the possibility of adding to its national guard? And to speak to a practical concern - do you want to be the guard who has to run a company of violent inmates who are all given machine guns?

South tried it in the civil war-except with tons of prisoners. Most of them just deserted. You really want to repeat that?

I guess it wouldnt be a good idea to put violent criminals among the people who are giving up so much to fight for our country, they arent going to become good citizens and stop being violent, more than likely, they will become more violent and aggressive, they dont care who they destroy, as long as they can, they dont care where they do it, what do they have to lose, nothing.

Thank you for your answers everybody. It has made me learn something. There will never be peace on earth. You know why, because the world doesn't really belong to anybody but every body wants to rule it. What a sad mad bad world we live in awwww! While I write this people are being killed innocent people and men are going to war, who really would rather be at home with the family or friends, but never will they admit this. It's just legalised (whatever that means)murder; for the man at the top to get what he wants; WE ALL HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE HERE. WE ALL HAVE THE RIGHT TO LIVE. NO MAN HAS THE RIGHT TO TAKE ANOTHER LIFE; ENEMIES TODAY; FRIENDS TOMORROW; SO WHAT WAS THE PURPOSE OF THE GRIEF AND THE SORROW;
