It is a symbol of obedience, and kissing up of oneself to that with which we are to an income be made harnessed. Passively.

Because ties look good with a plain white shirt, and makes a man look respectable and dignified. Just like a nice, tidy haircut. It shows a man has respect not only for himself but also for others. And if a man shines his shoes too, it adds to his appearance.

It's a great big arrow pointing to his dick! Why it has any status I really don't know. Maybe someone influential out there really hates the look of buttons (as a tie covers up the ones on your shirt).

I was always told that if you wear a tie, you command a lot more respect in the workplace and the business world.

It is a throw back to the 17th Century. It is becoming less important in business to be fair, less people wear ties now. Still need them for important occassions etc but alot of CEOs and MDs I know just can't be bothered.

Some like it, other have works where they have to wear uniform, and tie and shirt is a part of the uniform.

I am a man and I hate ties. a totally nonfunctional and uncomfortable piece of clothing. I only wear a tie when it is absolutely demanded.
