This is a question which cannot be answered to any meaningful extent without some advanced study on your part. I am not sure what level you are on, in formal education, so I cannot be sure how guide you. If you really are interested in how the human brain consciously classifies, stores and retrieves memories, you will need general science, at least an introductory level familiarity with chemistry with a bit of organic chemistry, fundamental biology, and some familiarity with the anatomy and physiology of the neurological system. If you have at least a passing acquaintance with these, and wish to read a stimulating book that will open up much understanding to you... (and don't let the word music throw you off) try reading __Music, the Brain & Ecstasy. Also, if you wish to discern between emotion and reason, you will enjoy the book __Emotional Intelligence__. I am not sure if this is what you really wanted to know. But, if you plan to go into medicine or one of the sciences this answer will steer you in the right direction.
