There are a number of WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editors out there. Many put crap HTML into the mix. Once you learn what's going on behind the scenes, you can use them to develop you page, then edit the HTML created to take out or change the bad stuff. BTW: Do NOT use WORD or other wordprocessors, EXCEL or other spreadsheet programs or other non-specific website editors. THEY create even MORE crap in the HTML than the WYSIWYG editors! Do a Google search for "HTML Editor" and see what you get. You can also search the alt.html and alt.webmasters newsgroups. They have new people ask all the time (much to the chagrin of the regulars. Please search first. If your question is not answered in prior messages, then ask. Here's my take on being a rookie and asking experts for information: http://www.orangefrogproductions.com/ofp2o_auth_artlet_webelitistsandrookies.shtml.

I learned the basics of HTML and web technology at http://www.extropia.com/tutorials.html I do all my web design by hand in Windows Notepad. I have both MS Frontpage and Macromedia Dreamweaver, but neither one gives me the kind of control that I like. If you're wanting to learn web design, I recommend also learning CSS at the same time--it makes things *so* much easier. I don't have any good tutorial sites for CSS, though. edit: Oh, and you won't need to know anything about C for web design. Any programming tasks for the web are better accomplished with different tools.
