    JAMMco... its complicated...

Did you maintain current speed or did you accelerate?
Had it already turned yellow as you were approaching and you saw it turn yellow?
Could you have stopped without being in the middle of the intersection or causing dangerous conditions for those around you?
Was the road icy or snowy decreasing your stopping ability?
Did you have an emergency that warranted you not being able to stop at the light for an additional minute as it cycles?

I was always told that I had to be across the intersection before it turned red for it not to be considered running the light. Also accelerating into a yellow is considered running the light as well since you had to speed up to make the light which means you could have slowed down to stop at it.

There really aren't any magic words that are going to get you out of this particular ticket.

Hire a lawyer and ask that the charge be reduced to a non moving violation... This will save points on your license and keep your insurance lower.

In my extensive (unfortunately) experience with moving violations, I have learned that being very respectful and explaining yourself does benefit you from time to time. I once got pulled over at 104, and got it reduced to 77, simply by being respectful and explaining why I was in such a hurry. They didn't let me totally off the hook, but it was a huge favor (because it was in a 55 mph zone, and 78 mph or more meant 2 weeks in the clinker)

Everybody knows I'm way too cute to be sitting in a cell with Bubba.

Nothin you can say. States are hard up for money right now, and RRL tickets are a pretty good revenue generator, and remember it's your word against the cops, and your in his playground.

Unfortunately, without a camera or witness, it will come down to you and the officer. As the officer is trained in moving violations and you are defending a ticket, your chances are low at getting it dismissed.

You might be able to get it reduced, though if you're crossing an intersection that close to a light turning red, it can considered reckless. If you are in the interection when the light goes red, you have run the light. The yellow is considered your slow down with caution warning, not something to beat. Next time, I'd take a deep breath and wait for the light. Good luck.
