a basic answer for the basic micrometer. Read the "whole" numbers on the sleeve as "dollars" the lines between as "quarters" and the numbers/lines on the thimble as "pennies" IE: whole number is 2 (dollars) with 3 line also on the sleeve (3 quarters = 75 cents) and 12 lines on the thimble (12 pennies) Add them up to get your answer .200 (whole no#) .075 (quarter total) .012 (penny total) +----- .287 total measurment How this simplifies rewading a micrometer
