  • the 1st time i heard it in 1967 (yes i'm that old).It was worded in a way to sneak the drug references past the censors.Grace Slick has always said that White Rabbit was intended as a slap toward parents who read their children stories such as Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (in which Alice uses several drug-like substances in order to change herself) and then wondered why their children grew up to do drugs.
  • Not long. I wasn't very worldly back then, but even an innocent like me knew what they were singing about. If you had read "Alice" you pretty much knew it was referring to the drugs and mushrooms she ingested during her travels.
  • not long at all. it's all right there at the beginning that it's about drugs. (just paraphrased, not exact lyrics) one pill makes you smaller, one makes you tall, but the ones that mother gives you don't do anything at all.
