  • Not a book, but I found a plate at Goodwill for $3. I put it on eBay and got $126 for it. Caution: This does not happen on a daily basis. If it did, eBay would be my full-time job.
  • Not exactly like that- in my studies, I have to buy a good number of expensive books. My mother-in-law, who works at a thrift shop, found a pile of books that she paid 25 cents each for a pile of twenty books that all together new would be well over three hundred dollars. (this is on the cheaper end of the books I have to buy, by far!)
  • I find a lot of great books at thrift stores, I buy many cookbooks that are usually $25-30 and I pay 2.00, you cant bet the price. My favorite find, was Gone with the wind.
  • I haven't found a treasure in a store, but my mom received a "costume" ring from her sister years ago - it's really gaudy and we used to laugh about it. When my mom passed away, God rest her lovely soul, I came across it again and when I took a good look at it I noticed it was 14K white gold. I took it to the jeweler and found out there are nearly 2 carats of real diamonds and it's valued at nearly $3,000. Wish it wasn't so ugly or I'd wear it - I'll have the stones re-set for my daughter or something. :o)
  • Recently I went to my favorite thrift store and when I went to the counter to pay for a couple of summer dresses I noticed a shell necklace in the jewelry case. Recognizing it for what it was, a 30 inch 15 strand Ni'ihau Laki Rice shell necklace, I purchased it for $175. It's worth at least 10 times that. I'll never sell it - it's absolutely amazing! Last year, same thrift store, similar circumstances...waiting in line to pay, saw a sweet pair of old screwback silver earrings and bought them for $3. Turned out they were vintage Georg Jensen and I sold them on ebay for $133. Not a bad profit.
