  • I know what you're referring to, and my very good list of book binding terms doesn't list it: http://www.alibris.com/glossary/glossary-books The edge where the groove is, is called a "fore-edge" or a "front-edge" I thought maybe it was a "french groove", but I remain unconvinced.
  • "notch" btw, is definitely the correct term.
  • Thumb-tabbing, maybe?
