if you have a modem such as a westell 6100 you will have to open ports in the modem required for the ps network, go to portforward.com and find your router (certain types of modems are classed as routers) and then search for playstation network in the list for your router, it will give you detailed instructions on how to set it up to allow access to the playstation network.

you might need to have a wireless router and use the wireless connecter in your ps3. go to network connect to network and you should be good to go good luck
