Not really where I live (the midwest), but if I were in a big city, it probably would. I usually take a shuttle from the airport to my hotel in most cities, so there are more people around. And, usually, I'm in a position where I either have my car, a rental car or someone to go with me in the cab.

yes. i live in a big city and in the last 2 yrs, cab drivers have committed 5 rapes per year.

No, but for some reason I've never thought of getting into a taxi the same as getting into a car with a stranger. Maybe because they have to be licensed to operate.

Normally not, but I'm a 6'2" 250lbs male. Here in Germany you can specify if you want a male or female driver. For my daughter I always ask for a femals driver. Even on a cab stand, you or your children can ask a cabby to call a cab for them with a female driver.
