If we apply Ohm's Law... I = V/R so if resistance is halved... I = V/R * (0.5) which is the same as 2I = 2V/R . . .

Current = Voltage / Resistance. Let I = V / R Then V / (R / 2) = 2V / R = 2I The current doubles.
