Is Joran Van der Sloot really stupid enough to admit involvement in Natalie Holloway's disappearance to a undercover reporter after being detained twice already? Has this lowered the bar on stupidity yet again?

The tape is set to be released tomorrow. I am very intrigued. I suspect it will be in Dutch so I hope the translation does not create a problem. Sometimes the nuances of different languages can be such than even the best interpreter cannot relay them in a simple manner. It should be interesting.

His father (an attorney) advised him, "no body, no crime." His father was referring the corpus delicti rule.

Even if young Joran confessed, the law generally requires independent evidence to corroborate the confession. Perhaps Dutch law is different, but in the U.S., we cannot convict a defendant for murder on the basis of a confession alone.

Here's an article from Radio Netherlands Worldwide:

Jereon van der Sloot "confesses" to false confession

Joran van der Sloot says that he has lied once again....

... he told his friend in question "what he wanted to hear."

He told his friend that he had sex with the young American woman, and that she became ill afterwards and then died. He then phoned an anonymous friend who then helped him get rid of her body from a boat.

Speaking by telephone on Dutch television's popular late-evening Pauw en Witteman talk show, Joran van der Sloot said he was retrospectively kicking himself for having said this: "It's so dumb, so dumb. It's really dumb. I said something; something I shouldn't have said." However, he also added that "It is also easy to prove that what I said is not true," although he appeared not to know how this could be done....
