Help answer this question below.
All depends on who is doing the baking. I know several people who would make that cake come out with the consistency of a hockey puck;)
home baked....even if it isnt any good I know someone cared enough to take the time to try!!
I'd really rather have cheesecake
Home baked, so I can make something like this~

A home baked cake, please... :)
Homemade...
I'll have a lemon cake with lemon icing please...:D
Theres a story I heard recently.
A couple have thanksgiving for their family every year, and every year the wife cooks. One year the wife gets sick, and they have to buy from the store.
After Thanksgiving, the husband is asked if he minded the change too much, he responded "that was the first time I've ever actually enjoyed thanksgiving".
Case in point, the thought might be important, but good food is better than thought anyday ;).
home baked every time, neverbeen much on cakes unless they are fruit cakes so thats what my mom always made for me on my birthday when i was a kid.
Home baked. You can eat it while it's kinda warm.
Depends on your cooking ability and time.
Momma Doomsday makes a mean carrot cake.
However, when Gramma Doomsday is in charge of the birthday cake department, I usually end up with some horrid monstrosity from the Dutch store. I remember this one year, it was this licorice flavored thing with a vein of almond moosh through the center. None too tasty, boy howdy. I'll take the home made, if I may.
I wouldn't mind a bakery-bought cake, but I don't mean a cake bought in a "bakery section" of a supermarket. I'm talking around the corner mom & pop bakery like all the little ones around me. :D
Home-baked is good, and definitely worth it, but if it's my birthday, I'd rather people spend time with me than in the kitchen baking a cake. :)
100% home baked. I don't care if its terrible, however I know all of the people who would get me a cake, and they aren't unskilled. the main thing is what kind of cake I recieve. If it matches my likes and favorite tastes then I don't care as much. If its(this is my most dreaded unliked formula I could think of,) an all white frosting, wal-mart cake with cheap candles and smaller than a pop tart, I'd be furious really, in the sense that the cake is ALL about getting to know me. If I hear someone got me a cake because its their favorite, I'd toss it in their face and just kinda not talk for a while..its about the thought, and the thought has to be thought of deeper than just "I got you a cake with the change i had in my car floor."
homebaked because you can contorl how much icing to put on it.
i rather have a home baked cake for my birthday
A store bought cake because you can add pictures and anything you want.
It's not the cake but the thoughtfulness that is important. It's so nice of anyone to go out of their way to bring me a cake that I don't care if it's purchased or made, what flavor or anything about it. Just the thought is great!
I'd rather have home baked even if it wasn't that good. It would mean more to me that the person made an effort than if I received the most delicious store bought cake on Earth.
Home-baked cake with canned icing is usually better and moister. ;-)
Store bought. They come with those big frosting roses.
Who's making the cake?
Anyways, assuming it's someone good and their making the cake from scratch, the homemade one.
Ice cream cake!!!
If someone I know can make it at home well kewl, but otherwise, that's an easy way to make me happy on B-Day without having to make it yourself
Mr Grandma's homemade all the way :)
Usually home made is best, but it depends on who's doing the baking. If I could bake it I know I would love it:-)
Homemade. Makes it more special.
Store bought CHEESE CAKE!!!!!!!!!!! :)
Store bought, Publix cake with whipped topping. Yummy
Home made... store bought don't make it feel your own.
Store bought . . . there's no one left in my family that's much of a baker. Sad.
Most of the time I prefer a store baked caked because they are professionally done, but one done at home with lots of love is wonderful too.
Homemade, store bought is way too rich for me.
Homemade all the time. Made with love and thoughfulness
I always have home baked.
store bought chocolate cake with real vanilla frosting...None of that crappy whipped stuff :)
I don't know anyone who is a great baker- so I'll go with store bought!
youve got to be kiddin
Home made shows that they put a lot of care into it (even if it tastes a bit funky), but I'll be fine with a store-bought as well -- no one usually bothers with cakes for my birthday so I'll consider them buying one a compliment. :P
Home made! Actually, I might even make it myself. My family has a delicious recipe for two layer Chocolate Raspberry Torte. Best part of the recipe might be the whipped cream - chocolate folded in and a liberal splash of Chambord. So. Yummy.
But honestly, I'd rather have no cake at all. Chocolate Mousse is my birthday dessert of choice.
Store bought...i actually think they taste better, at least where I get them. Home baked is good too, but it depends on who makes it. Sometimes it's the thought that counts, but on my birthday, I want an elaborate, professional cake which probably can't be made at home.
Homemade, please. I HATE store-cake and store-icing. Nasty stuff. All sugar and it tastes like iced cardboard. Even "nice" expensive cakes are a bit gross. I can make better cake than that with a mix, and even make it look as good. And my mommy makes great cakes of more inventive sorts, and my mother-in-law doesn't do so badly either, though she's not as good with cakes as my mom, and better with dinner-foods.
both at the same time
Homemade cake is always best, but store bought cakes are good too.
The best birthday cake I've ever eaten was baked by my mother. I'll take a store bought cake since my mother is no longer alive.
Homemade. I might make my own cake with a few friends for my birthday this year. It all depends on how things go.
Homemade by far. Store bought is always the same and the frosting is not nearly as good as homemade buttercream frosting.
more love in home baked, bake me one:p
I like home baked cakes more....cuz i feel happy that they took thier time making it
unless its from bj's, then i want it homemade-a red velvet cake perferred.
Store-bought, they can make really cool designs on the cake!
Which ever one tasted better.

This is true!

But of course I would appreciate the thought. Maybe I'd go for the concept of having a stand-in store bought, just in case the home baked couldn't fulfill its edible responsibilities;)
