  • Never. US citizens are the most arrogant and self-centered people I've ever met. In general, of course...
  • In the words of George Orwell.... AS SOON AS certain topics are raised, the concrete melts into the abstract and no one seems able to think of turns of speech that are not hackneyed: Prose consists less and less of words chosen for the sake of their meaning, and more and more of phrases tacked together like the sections of a prefabricated henhouse." Many Americans seem incapable of discussing the military in anything but pre-fabricated phrases like "Support The Troops", "Freedom Isn't Free" and, of course, "God Bless America".
  • Not just now. Did you know almost 70,000 Canadians fought for the US in the Vietnam War? They haven't been recognized by anyone, not even CANADA!
  • Just because we support our troops does not mean we don't support yours! I think every time Bush mentions "the coalition" he is told that the US is acting alone, like a cowboy nation. So I guess the rest of the world convinced us that we were in it alone. Try not to make us feel like we're acting alone and we might actually notice others. Our media reports about our troops. I hope your media reports about your troops. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ops/iraq_orbat_coalition.htm This is the quickest data I could find. It is from Jan 2007. These numbers have not gone up, I can guarantee that. This shows that the rest of the coalition troops constitute about 10% of the total force in Iraq. I respect the countries that are there. Much respect is to be given to the troops, but only 4 other countries have troops "in theater". I understand this does not include Afghanistan.
  • In no way do US citizens believe we are the only armed forces in the world.... ...Just because we are very proud of our military men and women, doesn't mean we don't acknowledge other nation's military. . . A converse question to yours: . "When will ALL european citizens realize it is not the US that is causing the worlds animosities? When will they stop blaming the US for the Animosities? When will they wake up?
  • Uh... ours ARE the only armed forces in the world fighting for our freedom. The other armed forces of the world are fighting for THEIR freedom! ... ... or at least their national interest. If we're fighting the same threat, that's just a wonderful coincidence. :) But don't decieve yourself for one minute that any of our "allies" is doing what they do just to help us. It seems that the US Gov is the only Government in the world that tries to sell it's people on fighting for OTHER people's freedom (which - hopefully - is just code for "it's in our national interest, but we want to be able to believe we've got the moral high ground and are acting self-lessly"). The French are at least honest about it: "We have no friends. We have no enemies. We have only interests." Oh for the days of John Adams and his wisdom: "The friend of freedom everywhere, the defender of none but our own."
