Why does the government tell us what time our bars are to close?

the bar is a business.. and the business is regulated by the government.. hence... the regulation... if you weren't running an official business.. then they couldn't tell you when to close now could they?

Because studies indicated it would reduce drunk driving accidents. Addendum: Actually, states do not say when bars must close, they only say when alcohol should be cut off. Of course, most bars close at that time because they would be losing money to stay open.
