Depends on where you go. I did my taxes online at first this year, but by the time I got to the end, the service I was using hadn't done anything about my education credits. My refund would have been $29 had I submitted it then. Knowing that I was eligible for a hefty credit, I bought TurboTax (which I've used in the past), and wound up with an actual refund of $411, which more than made up for having to buy the software. My taxes are simple enough that an accountant could not have improved on that.
