  • I've done it both ways, but find having the lyrics (and therefore, rhythm, first helps.
  • Lyrics. Then you know the tone you're looking for...somber, racing, cheerful, pounding...
  • I play a little guitar. I think its easier to write the music first. However, sometimes you can take something you've written and make it fit. That's why it's fun to have a writing partner.
  • the tune man its all about the tune a good song call sell with the tune alone
  • i've done both. usually it comes out melody first but the words are usually on my mind in some way already.
  • Everybody is differnt. Some prefer to have the music first, and write lyrics to match the mood of it. (Def Leppard, AC/DC, etc.) Some prefer the lyrics first, and write the music to match the mood generated by them (Elton John and Bernie Taupin). And, sometimes it just depends on the mood... Sometimes the music comes with the lyrics... Sometimes the lyrics come in a rhythm (and sometimes you have to wait for the music to come to you) and vice-versa. Right now, I'm really struggling to find the lyrics for a song I wrote. But I have very few (full) lyrics without possible (bad as they may be) music.
  • I start using both at the same time , three words and my tune follows automatically in my mind
  • I write the drone first.
