The word "not" can make a sentence change to the completely opposite meaning.

"and the word was God" vs "and the word was a god" one implies a single god, the second implies a plurality of gods.. all it took was the smallest word in the english language to change the entire implication of the phrase, not even a negator, just a simple article. imagine.
