January is waay better than August in the deep south. The weather in January is the best this time of year.

Yes and no. Yes because in sunny So. Cal., January is usually a lovely month, with temps in the 60's and even 70's! But no because right after Christmas (1/6 - right after the twelfth day of Christmas) comes my younger daughter's birthday, and there is always that "double whammee" (meaning, expense!) - so, just when you thought you were done spending for Christmas, oops there goes another chunk!...Luckily, I'm careful not to over-indulge, since I'm not a huge spender to begin with, whether I feel I have a little extra money or not; yet whatever I do spend, it will wind up being 1/2 again as much or so, because of her January 6th birthday. This year was her 18th!! Hard to believe.
