I See it as a form of "money talks".The U.S dollar was such a heavyweight for so long and before that the British empire..Its only natural we aren't all speaking

I really don't know. It is by no means the most widely spoken language..and it is a very young language. Young languages tend to lack the ease of communication and tend to be difficult with a large number of irregular forms incorporated into them. I think that maybe one of the reasons that English is gaining status is that the word order is not as rigid as in some other languages..You can make errors in English and still be fully understood as to what you 'meant' to say.

Yup. That's why Brazilians speak Portuguese, Mexicans speak Spanish, people from Cameroon speak French etc.

Actually, I think the global number of French-speakers and Spanish-speakers (each) eclipsed the number of English-speakers for quite a while...until about the 18th century.
