  • If it was a choice between the 2, I would say the atheist since deeds are more important than words, but personally I don't believe in hell.
  • Neither would go. The atheist doesn't believe it's there and the christian doesn't deserve it. Besides...they'd be busy arguing for the next millenia anyway and have no interest in the here after.
  • Neither would go to heaven. With respect to the Atheist, I will refer you to Hebrews 11:6, "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." So, all of the good works in the world are not going to please God if we don't believe in Him. Without faith, our works are meaningless. With respect to the unrighteous Christian, I will refer you to James 2:26. "For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also." (Read v. 14-26 for his full discourse on this.) So, faith that is not backed up by good works is also useless. In the final analysis, the only way that I can reconcile all of the verses that talk about works with those that discuss faith is to say that one needs both faith and works to obtain salvation. Neither one by itself has the power to bring us back into the presence of God.
  • Salvation is based on one thing and one thing only accepting Jesus Christ as your Saviour. there is no way ever that an athiest no matter whether he did nothing good or if he accomplished One-million deeds he would not go to heaven. • I dont believe you get to Heaven for doing good anymore than you go to hell for being bad. Ephesians 2:8-9 says 8."For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God." 9. "Not of works, lest anyone should boast." All our good works are as filthy rags to God. We can not do enough good to earn our way into Heaven. Simply believing in God is not enough. Satan and all his demons believe in God, but I can assure you they will not find their place in Heaven. To become a Christian, first you have to believe that you and all your fellow man are sinners. Romans 3:23,"For all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God." And we must acknowledge that there is a price to pay for sin. Romans 6:23,"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Then that brings us back to Ephisians 2:8-9, that we understand that with God's grace through faith, knowing that Jesus, God's Son, died and paid the price for us, because we are not good enough or clean enough to enter into God's Kingdom without cleansing (death). John 3:16 says,"For God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life." Then you shoud pray what most Christians call the "Sinner's Prayer", and if you mean it with all your heart, and are sincere, pray something like this,"God, our Father, I know I am a sinner, I realize I cannot get to you without the Holy Blood of Jesus. Lord, I thank you for sending your Son, Jesus Christ to die for me, a sinner. I pray that you will forgive me of my sins and I repent today, and turn away from those sins, Lord, and I thank you for saving my soul. In the precious name of your Son, Jesus Christ, I pray, Amen." That is all there is to it. But you must be sincere and mean it.. He will know your heart. So an Athiest who does great good is going to hell as sure as a serial killer with no remorse. And as far as a Christian who commits terrible crimes, if he was a true Christian he would not commit those terrible crimes.

  • I still dont understand why sometimes I get duplicate answers,,, could some one help me fix that?
  • Glen Blaylock, would you not agree that an unsaved person could not do enough good to earn his way into Heaven, and that if he became saved that just the very nature of being a Christian would have him doing good works intead of bad?
  • first you have to define Christian, because a for someone that is a true Christian (and not just one that says they are) this isn't an issue. The true Christian will live there life in a way to try and please God out of respect for the love that God showed them through Jesus dying on the cross. However, we are all people and prone to make mistakes, which is why God has shown us forgiveness. So, if the Christian commits a big sin, he will still go to Heaven, because of the faith he has in Jesus. The Atheist will not go to Heaven, because although he doesn't commit any 'Big' sins, he does still commit at least one small one. God is completely holy, so someone that is not considered holy cannot go to Heaven (Romans 3:10). The only way that someone that has sinned to be considered holy by God, is to accept the terms of forgiveness He gives us in the Bible. (Romans 10:9-13)
  • Neither, you must believe in god, be baptized and ask forgiveness for your sins to enter the kingdom of heaven.
  • Remember that Revelation 20:6 says that those who go to Heaven will serve as "Kings and priests". Who would make a better king or priest, someone who does not even believe the God that he is supposed to be serving, or an unrepentant man guilty of gross sin? Neither.
  • There is no such thing as atheist. yes they dont associate themselves with a belief but if they do good then they believe in good dont they? if they do bad then they believe in bad. The bible says that if you believe in Jesus your saviour then you will enter Heaven. what does it mean to believe in something. if you really believe in a good business idee you will attempt it knowing that it will work. i have never heard of someone that believes in something and dont do follow or do it. same reason. if you believe in Jesus (not just the name, but for who he was) then you will follow his ways. therefore, no bad person believes in Jesus, yes he might believe in his name. But that doesnt make him a christian. but remember we can not judge. So we wouldnt know who is bad and who is not.
  • Kabuki: above you asked "How is it murder if Jesus went to his death voluntarily? But never mind that, explain to me why the sin of disbelief is more burdensome cross-wise than the sin of, say, murder." These 2 questions are connected. First you have to understand the view of God's holiness. God is completely holy; which just means he is without sin, therefore, b/c of His nature, sin cannot touch or affect him, which means that when we sin, we break the relationship we had with him; which is where the concept of Hell comes in, as it is the complete absence of God and therefore anything and everything good (including relationships, so you will not see your friends and family there even if they are in Hell as well). Fortunately, by nature God is also completely loving, and so Jesus came to serve as a sacrifice to cover our sins. The Hebrews, in the Old Testament, sacrificed animals to do the same thing, but that only gave a temporary fix, and just served to model the sacrifice that was to come thrugh Jesus (this is deep and would require a lot more space to explain than is available here). Jesus died to give man forgiveness for their sins. Because he is actually God himself in the flesh, this sacrifice was enough to cover all the sins of every man. This forgiveness is available to anyone, with only one catch. You simply have to believe that Jesus is God, and that this sacrifice offered genuine forgivneness. The reason the sin of disbelief is not forgiveable, is because that is the basis for forgiveness. This takes us back to the illustration I mentioned at the top of the page. If I killed your son and because you were a very gracious and forgiving person you came to me and offered to forgive me, but I rejected it then there would be nothing else you could do. Our sin necessitated that Jesus die so we could be forgiven. This forgiveness is available to anyone, and everyone, all we have to do is place our faith in Jesus/God, and accept the forgiveness. Our sin of disbelief is not "more burdensome" than the other sin; b/c it is the basis for God's forgiveness, it is actually a rejection of that forgiveness freely offered by God, so logically speaking there is no way for that sin to actually be forgiven. Your first question above is correct, our sin did not murder Jesus, because he did choose to die on his own, but if he didn't die then we would all be destined to Hell because of the Holy nature of God that I mentioned earlier. Fortunately, he did die for us, and has forgiven us for every sin we have committed, or will ever committ, we just have to accept the forgiveness by faith in him. Also connected to the issue of God's holiness, we can't do anything to earn forgiveness. No matter how many good things we do, we are by nature sinful (everyone sins, and usually takes pleasure in it). God wants us to do the good things, and is pleased by it, but that doesn't actually deal with the fact that we are still tainted by the sin. I hope this answers your question a little better. If you want to address this any further, or more specifically you can email me (I just made my email visable on my profile, at least for the time being).
  • Probably both.......... I think it's 1 out of 2.....
  • By who's standards are these good works deemed as good, man or God?Isaiah said mans good works are as filthy rags to God.Paul said there are none good,no not one.Genesis 6:5 says mans heart is continually evil.So no man does good in God's eyes. The christian is made righteous through Christ. Not in and of ourselves. Also just because someone claims Christ doesn't mean they have him.Read Matthew 7:21-23.Most of the so-called christians in america are decieved, they have no idea what a biblical christian is.They are just being taught this crap is all you have to do.Notice no repentance/turning from sin.Jesus said when your saved your made a new creature, that old man is dead and now you have a desire to serve Christ.John said love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.Jesus will be the head of your life. The most important. This is the unbiblical crap that is being taught. http://www.getsaved.com
  • We don't have a heaven or hell to put anyone in; only God can and will judge justly...
  • no doubt. both. heaven is the next level. granted it might be a big waiting room, still its not Hell.
  • Either the Christian or neither. Duhhhhhhhhh.
  • Heaven isn't about good or bad people. It's God's Home. He's only going to invite His friends to come live with Him. Atheists refuse to admit He even exists. That's not friendship. A 'Christian' who commits terrible crimes is being disobedient, and is therefore not a friend. What's so hard about this?
  • Probably neither - they don't call it "judgement day" for nothing! The answer is in Luke 13.22-27 And He went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem. Then one said to Him, "Lord, are there few who are saved?" And He said to them, "Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able. When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, "Lord, Lord, open for us,' and He will answer and say to you, "I do not know you, where you are from,' then you will begin to say, "We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.' But He will say, "I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.'
  • It depends. Both or one or neither. + The Atheist + The Catholic Church believes that those who die never hearing of Christ but have sought the truth and does the will of God as they understand it will be saved. This is based on Romans chapter 3: For it is not those who hear the law who are just in the sight of God; rather, those who observe the law will be justified. For when the Gentiles who do not have the law by nature observe the prescriptions of the law, they are a law for themselves even though they do not have the law. They show that the demands of the law are written in their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even defend them on the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge people's hidden works through Christ Jesus. (Romans 3:13-16) If the Atheist fits this criteria then he would go to heaven. However if he has freely chosen to reject God then God will respect his free will choice and will not force him to be with God forever in heaven. For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, sections 1257-1261: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt2sect2.shtml#art1 + The Christian + Catholics do not believe in "once saved, always saved." Saved Christians have the freedom to fully reject God and their salvation. We call this mortal sin. If the "Christian" who committed terrible sins dies without repenting then he will go to hell. If he truly repents then he will go to heaven. With love in Christ.
  • The Christian of course. "Christian aren't perfect, just FORGIVEN". Understand now?
  • I'll vote "the atheist" as I'm CERTAIN God will enlighten him on the "other" side and I DON'T believe in rewarding hypocritical Christians!
  • Do all questions only have two options? Who believes in heaven, who defines good, how terrible is terrible? I will go with neither gets to pass GO or collect 200 hundred dollars. Accepting the premises stated in your question one would need purity of heart and a belief in their chosen diety to go to their heaven. Prove me wrong.+5
  • All christians must forgive those who have sinned against them. Not sure how "God" works it out. But the Mafia's (Tony Soprano),the Mongal's Genghis Khan ,Hitler, Uganda's "Big Daddy Amin ",and Cambodia's Pol Pot may have been forgiven and anyone can do the same when they get to the other side.
  • An atheist who accomplishes good will probably be blessed with blatant unshakable evidence that will let him agree to salvation. And God will say "Well done" Like the truth before dying. As for the other. Don't forget the "gnashing of teeth" Are you truly seeking? It shows in your actions. Judgement is God's.
  • You know the answer and tis not what you want to hear. "NO" you cant buy your way into HEAVEN with gifts, money or acts.
  • The atheist who accomplished great good.
  • First point: not everyone who cries "Lord, Lord" are true Christians. A true Christian would do his (or her) best to obey the commandments and live a life which glorifies God. A so-called Christian who commits terrible crimes is not worthy of the title. Second point: an atheist lacks the faith to enter the abode of God. Neither will enter the Celestial Kingdom.
