  • I am still using XP on my laptop, though my preference is now just using my iPhone.
  • Windows XP sp2, it knocks Vista right out of the ball park.
  • Linux Ubuntu, and it is free.
  • I like Solaris 10, Fedora core 2, SUSE,Redhat, SGI IRIX(still working on porting to x86/64 or Itanium IA-64, it needs MIPS) IBM AIX is nice, tho clunky, or MAC OSX(working on porting to a Intel PC
  • Well you can always go back to WindowsXP.
  • That's what I have. It sucks.
  • Alan I thought you were getting on well with Vista. If you cannot manage it how the heck am I suppsed to ever get used to Vista?
  • Aside from going back to XP, your options are basically the various distributions of Linux if you want to keep your existing PC, or add Mac OS X if you'd be willing to buy a Mac. The problem with making OS recommendations is that every user has their own priorities and needs and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another. Ubuntu is probably the most user friendly Linux OS out there right now and its user community is growing in leaps and bounds. What most users find wrong with one version usually gets fixed by the next release. Ubuntu may not come with every program under the sun, but with access to the fabled online repository, there are tens of thousands waiting to be explored. The downside - no easy way to run Windows applications. Mac OS X has its own advantages. The OS is quite stable due to the known set of hardware Macs work with. Macs now have the ability to run Windows as well, either as a VM or dual booted in its own partition, so if you're attached to certain Windows software, you can take it with you. If this is your plan, I wouldn't buy the lowest end of the Mac hardware spectrum. I think if someone said to me, "Windows is no longer available, pick an OS - Linux or Mac OS X". After long deliberate debate I'd have to go with Ubuntu Linux.
