Help answer this question below.
Probably for the same reason you see white women with naturally straight hair who wear ultra curly "dos." Or Asian women with blonde or red hair. Because many women (and some men) like to change their "look." Some more than others. And many more often than others. Dyed hair. Permed hair. Collagen lip injections. Nose jobs. It runs the gamut.
The answer for a large population of American-Africans is because of the nature of black hair being, let's call it unruly, many in the black community are looking for an easy way to manage our hair. Really it does not have anything to do with emmulating white people because if the script was flipped and white people had our unruly hair you would see them straightening it so it would be easier to get up and go in the morning.
A lot of women dye their hair different colours as it suits them to do so.
Isn't Beyonce Knowles black too?
The reason you see black women with straight hair on television or anywhere for that matter is due to the fact they-like their ancestors before them-want to blend in to a more Anglo-looking environment. Ever since the days of Cab Calloway and James Brown blacks have lost their true identity in regards to what being a "real black person" is all about. The Europeoan standard of what is considered beautiful has brainwashed them tremendously beyond repair.
