  • The electrons around an atoms are organized in layers. The last layer of each atom is called the valence layer. If the valence layer is almost empty then the atom will give off easily these electrons when a small energy (voltage) is provided and therefore those are conductors. If the valence layer is full or nearly full the material is an insulator.
  • Conductors allow the electrons to flow whilw the insulators does the opposite
  • LOL And they say there's no such thing as a stupid question. What does the dictionary say about conductors? About insulators? If an insulator can stop heat or cold, doesn't it make sense that an electrical insulator can stop electrons???????
  • conductors have a low resistance and so conduct electricity easily but a insulator has a high resistance and can't contuct elictricity very easily at all
