  • Most of the evidence I've read seems to suggest that icing and applying heat don't do much for you other than alleviate symptoms (it's probaby not going to hurt anything, but it won't help you heal). Since it's your knee, be careful about using ice for too long, because it's more susceptable to tissue damage (it lacks the fat insulation that other areas of the body have). If you feel like it helps with the swelling, use ice, or take a couple of aspirin. It'd probably be more important to keep your weight off the leg and if it doesn't feel any better tomorrow get yourself to a doctor.
  • R.I.C.E Rest Ice Compress Elevation Stay off of it and use an ice compress. Try and have the knee elevated above your heart when laying down. Take some anti-inflammatory drugs (ibuprofen, aleve etc). DO NOT use heat, use ice for swelling. I hope you feel better, knee injuries suck, I know!
  • yes....NINJA is right.....never put heat on a soft tissue injury, because it can cause internal bleeding........RICE method is correct......it could be many things, from a broken kneecap to torn ligaments.......i have had torn ligament's, and my knee swelled up to the size of a grapefruit......go see an orthopedist.....they will help........take care....Brian......
