You don't say your age, but if you're in your 40's you could be going through what is known as perimenopause. This transition time can last anywhere from 5 to 10 years before menopause actually is final. If that's possible for you, the flow of your period changes or stops, but will start again on and off for months at a time. Menopause is when there have been no menstrual periods for 12 straight months. The average age is 50-52, with varying factors including heredity or smoking.
