I like Ted Deker, he worked with Frank Peretti on a book and thats how I found him, but he has a lot of his own books.

Older reads that are really cool are by Michael Crichton. Jurassic Park had much more than the movie and another great book by him is The Great Train Robbery.

Richard Laymon is similar, and very good :-)

"weave World" and "The long dark tea-time of the soul" are both great books by Clive Barker, among most of his work but those 2 are my fave.

That's a new name to me so I'll look for his books. Thank you!

Laz's Mouse here-hi-try John Saul's The Blackstone Chronicles-it was issued originally as a 6-part serial but if you search you can find all 6 volumes in one edition, published by Ballantine Publishing Group as a Fawcett Columbine book, February 1998. Think you'll like this one!-p&l

Check out Bentley Little, Simon Clark, Douglas Clegg and Robert McCammon; all are great authors. McCammon's Swan Song is among the best I have read; a similar premise to The Stand but IMO, a much better story.

I heartily agree with PrimeTap that you should check out McCammon. IMHO his novel "Boy's Life" is the best book I've ever read. It's a little bit mystery, a little bit horror and even a touch of SF. All in all the best I've read. For his straight horror you can't match "Stinger" and his post-apocalyptic"ness" shines in "Swan Song". A lesser known name you might find very interesting is F. Paul Wilson. When I was younger I read and very much enjoyed "The Keep" (much better than the so-so movie adaptation) and it wasn't until last month that I found out that he had written several "sequels" in the form of The "Repairman Jack" series. There are eleven so far and I sped through them in the last month unable to put them down. Where most series get worse as you go through them and only the best series manage to stay as interesting and fresh as their first... Wilson's "Repairman Jack" series actually gets better and better with each book. Check out "The Keep" followed by the first Repairman Jack book "The Tomb". The RJ books all have a quote from Stephen King on the cover stating that he considers himself President of the Repairman Jack fan club. Hope this helps.
