i would like to think that they should not be at as many different ages as they are, if i am old enough at 18 to know if it is right for me to smoke or not, then i should be able to know if it is right for me to drink at that age too. driving, yes, that can be something that is done when you are younger (i think it is alone at 16 in most states, but when i was 14 i was able to get a permit to drive myself to school alone...) sexual consent i wont go into because i am kind of conservative on that (i dont want to offend, i am not going to push my beliefs on the the answerbag world) owning guns is a tough one because some kids have trouble using those guns for the right reasons, however, i think that even if the age was changed, the kids who wanted guns would find ways to obtain them anyway. in sum, driving at 16, the rest at 18. sorry i rambled

I live in the UK and don't know all the laws that you have in the US. I'm 17 and in my opinion i am very responsible i have been drunk but i know when to stop. I think this should be taken into account when looking into legal "age" for different hazardous things. Driving is a tough one, i know that young people often have the "DRIVE FASTER..." approach and i definitely agree we shouldn't have 3ft 7 year olds driving round but surely if you have stricter punishments then you can lower the dangers associated with driving without putting a ridiculous age on it. I think 17 in the UK is fair. I would prefer it was 16 but i'm 17 now and it wouldn't affect me either way. I think alcohol is the hardest to define... It shouldn't be 18 IMHO but it shouldn't be 12... i think it should depend on the personality of the person and that you should almost be licensed to drink. E.g. If you havn't taken part in a violent crime, dangerous driving or drug use before the age of 15/16 then you should be allowed to drink. But if you have a record for the above you don't get sent a license til a time when the police feel you are mature eneough. Sorry for the essay ^ ^ ^ comment me if you disagree...

I agree with most legel ages as they are except sexual concent should not be just an age but an age difference I do not have a problem with a 15yr old consenting to a 17year old but any older should be ilegal, I also think that college age girls should not be with 30 and 40 year olds.
