  • It seem like all you hear about is how video games are bad. but some of the smartest poeple I know do nothing but sit in from of thier games all night. The only thing is that most of them are pretty big dorks. Video games do not make kids stupid they make them geeks but hey thier your kids, if you dont want them to play so much dont let em
  • All the people in our house are now on the computer many hours a day. It depends on what else you have in mind. If they have already done their homework, and have no other obligations, I don't see any harm. If you have other worthwhile activities you want them to join you in, then you might have a case, but to stop computer games and replace with TV watching, what would be the point?
  • I was just at the Doctor's with my 11 year old and he said that he recommends no more than 2 hours per day of screen time (to include games, TV and computer time. This is what we try to stick to. Both of my sons are involved in sports and other after school activities. We always insist on family dinner together (without the TV on) and we reserve wednesday evenings for family games.
  • Sounds like you're asking about how you deal with them when they visit you. The answer is, what alternatives are being offered. If they live with mom and only visit with you they have all their "stuff" at mom's. So you might work on establishing a place, either a room or a portion of a room where they can have their own stuff and can feel some possessory interests. And work on developing interests in something. Unfortunately kids today don't seem interesteed in building models (planes, ships, boats, etc.) or working with electric trains. How about trying something like that, building something together (models or a train layout). Or plan a trip for some time in the future, which trip will require some skills that can be studied and practiced when they visit...such as camping, cooking freeze-dried food, pitching a tent, etc. The idea is to divert them from the TV stuff and get them interested in something you can share with them. Good luck
  • My rules was as follows: under age 13 - no video games. Age 13-15, .30 minutes per day on Sat & Sun only. Age 15 -18 .30 minutes per day. As a reward for something positive they had done, they could receive an additional .30 of game time on any given day.
  • Its funny how we can play on the computer for hours and not even realize how fast the time has flown by. I think 1 hour is a perfect time limit, at a half hour, you are just getting into it. Dont let them guilt trip you. If that is what you want, it needs to be your rules.
  • NO LIMITS!!!! why should we put a limit on how much time we put on our childs game playing. I never had limits when i was a child. I dont think it interferes with school or anything then why should it matter. Just make sure that school is first, then do whatever. I played maybe for 3 hours a day, this was when nintendo was the big thing and i graduated #1 in my class graduated college and have a decent job. So proof is here, the more a child plays video games, the more successful he will be!!!
  • hey if they are good in school and get good grades you can bump it up to 45 or an hour. I dont think you're being a bad mom...lol.
