  • I don't know how to do this off the top of my head, however I hate to see such a simple question unanswered. Here's what Google found: http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/8/ All you have to do is edit/create a registry value to enable or disable the document history. If you are not comfortable with editing the Windows registry (a big database of operating system, hardware and software program settings and information), please avoid doing so. You can seriously screw up things if you don't know what you're doing. If you don't understand what the link tells you to do, have someone more knowledgeable do it for you.
  • An essential tool which I always install on every new machine I set up is the Microsoft coders' creation TweakUI. One of the few pieces of software from Microsoft that I think is entirely quality, and ironically one of the pieces of software that they don't officially support. :) With TweakUI, you can disable and enable many hidden features, and literally tweak Windows to how you like it. It supports all versions of Windows from 95 to XP, and it's a tiny installation too. There's a Knowledge Base guide on how to install/uninstall TweakUI here: http://masl.to/?R3BA24637 (although it's written in the context of Windows 98, installation is the same on every Windows platform). The page also contains the link to download TweakUI, which is http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/downloads/powertoys/networking/nttweakui.asp - once you have TweakUI installed, go to the TweakUI applet inside the Control Panel, and from there you can enable or disable the Documents menu (you can make Windows clear all the recent documents from the recent documents folder on logoff in the Paranoia section, and you can stop IE from adding newly opened documents to the list in the IE tab)... Go exploring, there's loads of other nifty features you can play with :)
