You cannot get malware or viruses from media files. Just be careful not to download other types of files. By the way, in the United States, most things on Limewire are illegal to download.

In theory, it is possible to infect a multimedia file with code meant to exploit a vulnerability in the media player you use to play the file. These vulnerabilities do exist by the way. There just haven't been any documented stories (yet) of them being implemented. Of course, all of this is moot if the vulnerabilities are patched on the affected software.
