Sudden weight loss, constantly drinking water, frequent (and usually inappropriate) urination. The urine is likely to be watery. Often being lethargic. My wife and I had a diabetic cat for 7 years, and he led a good life. He was difficult to diagnose at first, but we found a great vet. It took a while to get him on the right dose of insulin, but we got a home test kit and tested him daily and we gave him insulin shots twice a day. Home testing is better than taking them to the vet, because going to the vet causes additional stress. It's hard and scary at first, but we taught him that after his shots, he got fed. And the shots really don't hurt if you do it right.
