Yours is an unusual question on English crammer. Though it would be grammatically correct to say 'It is I' by common usage 'It is me' has come to be accepted as the most normal way of expressing the idea. Here we must remember that English is a very flexible language that has shown the willingness to change with the times. That is how English became such a rich language. So I would say both the expressions are correct.

"It is me" would be appropriate.

"It is I" is the only truly proper use of the language. Though "it is me" is more often heard it's improper grammar.
