  • Do hairdressers actually perform that skin test? Very interesting question. In my experience (not very much, by the way--I colored hair for approximately 5 years), I know of no customers who had a reaction to the hair dye. Not to say it doesn't or can't happen... just didn't happen to me. In my very brief hairstyling career I can remember performing only one preservice test. It was for a client who was insistent that her hair be permed. Her hair was obviously trashed, and we did not want to touch it with a 10-foot pole. So to convince her that she did not want a perm, we snipped a small swatch of hair from underneath in her nape area and set it in perm solution. Within 5 minutes it was melted like Barbie's hair in a curling iron! I think she took home some deep conditioner.
  • Jac, my colorist, says that it is very rare for somebody to have an adverse reaction. She wasn't sure of the exact percentage, but said it is likely less than 5%.
