Statistically speaking there is a 71% chance that this plane will land in an ocean or marginal sea and only a 29% chance that it will land on dry land. (These are the proportions of Earth's surface represented by each.) Even if the plane lands on land, odds of it actually being found are not that good unless they have some way of tacking it that will also survive reentry. Obviously, the odds of being found are even worse if it comes down on water. Especially if the materials from which it is made are denser than water.
