Having a non-functioning pancreas is a very serious medical concern and you should seek emergency medical treatment immediately. Despite its small size, the pancreas is a very important organ and if it is functioning at anything less than peak performance you run the risk of developing very serious if not fatal health complications. You should speak to your GP about being referred to a specialist who can sit down with you and discuss your options - if your pancreas is not functioning than it is likely that you will be scheduled for surgery to have it removed. Once your pancreas is removed, you will need to regularly consult with either your doctor or specialist whilst your body and lifestyle adjust. The pancreas is very important to the body because it completes the job of breaking down protein, carbohydrates, and fats using digestive juices of pancreas combined with juices from the intestines. It also secretes hormones that affect the level of sugar in the blood and produces chemicals that neutralize stomach acids that pass from the stomach into the small intestine by using substances in pancreatic juice. A non-functioning or non-existent pancreas (without the assistance of insulin or other medication) can lead to serious health complications such as diabetes, diabetic coma or chronic pain. If you have not done so already, I strongly suggest that you seek medical advice immediately.
