  • Good question! If you ask me, it's definitely not the atheist you have to worry about.
  • Yeah, I can't say I've ever seen atheist churches come up, nor people knocking door to door asking you to consider becoming atheist like Jehovah's Witnesses do.
  • By introducing foreign, crazy ideas such as logic and common sense to people who simply want to believe in the concept that if a book says something, it's true.
  • It's because atheists are just as passionate about their beliefs, as christians are.
  • I have never known an atheist to "push" their beliefs on anyone. What I find irritating is when someone calls Christians names and speaks of their beliefs with utter contempt in public places, such as forums, and then in the next breath, piss and moan about how Christians should keep their beliefs/opinions to themselves and completely out of the public.
  • The one I like the best is when people call atheism a "religion". While a religion is based on beliefs, a belief does not constitute a religion.
  • I think people often get atheism and secularism confused. You can be a devout believer and staunchly secular although I suspect it is rarer than atheist secularists. But I know quite a few people that think that way so it is not uncommon either. I don't "push" atheism onto anyone but that does not mean I will not debate it with anyone that engages with me. I certainly don't knock on people's doors with something like "Hi! Have you heard the bad news? He doesn't love you because he doesn't exist!" or whatever. I don't really care what anyone else believes. However I am active in seeking secularism. I just don't think religion should be a part of government or education ( unless it is private education, which I still have misgivings over but that's another debate). Since we can never prove it either way just leave it to individuals. That doesn't mean teach kids to be atheists in public schools any more than it means teaching them to be Muslims. Don't push any belief or lack of belief onto them. If it comes down to a conflict between secularism and religion over say, the teaching of evolution or physics in public schools then my suggestion is that private education is for those that object to science so strongly. And yes I am all for a tax rebate for those that choose to remove their kids from secular education into religious education.
  • I am sorry, but being very loud and opinionated about the existance of god or taking god lightly amoungst groups of people who believe in him and making those people feel foolish or ashamed for what they believe is pushing your beliefs on people. How is that any different than a religious person discussing lets say abortion and saying that it is murder and sinful, people who support abortion feel as if they are being persecuted and have the religion being pushed on them, the question they ask is why should I prescribe to their religious morals when I do not practice thier religion? Athiesm simply states that you do not believe in God/god/god's. So if you go around telling people that they are stupid, wrong, or wasting thier time with their religion or God you not only are pressing your "religion" on them. Not only that you are acting exactly like the bigots, zealots and doo gooders that (some) of you spend so much time complaining about. This is examplified by telling somebody that GOD DOES NOT EXIST! BURN YOUR BIBLE! GOD IS DEAD AND SHE WAS A CRAZY WOMAN! As opposed to being as decent as you claim to be and as some of you are and saying things like "I do not believe god exists", "I am an athiest", "I think that religion is not inspired."
  • Human nature is that we all push our beliefs at people, unless we are controlled. Debating with somebody does not necessarily equal forcing viewpoints but it is often interpreted that way. Atheists can be as guilty as believers and agnostics of such ways but they do not all push their viewpoints down other people's throats.
  • I've never had that happen. If and when it does,I'm sure that I won't be threatened by it.
  • no different than the christian or the muselim pushing their beliefs, .................
  • i've never really seen it happen, though i don't imagine it would until somebody comes and steps on their religious toes. then in that case they have a right to completely defend themselves in their choice of religion or lack thereof.
  • the only time I have ever seen or heard this is when bible thumping bigots start ranting and raving and start waving it (the bible)about as the word of god .... when its not ....its the words of men
  • HA! I find it quite the opposite
  • I share my views, but I don't "push beliefs" on anyone. However, if someone tries to push their beliefs on me, I do get rather insulting in the most courteous way possible.
  • I have never seen that, I am always getting shit from christians
  • I don't know of any that have. And I know you don't. But unfortunately it's always the other way around. Did someone tell you thats what we do? Hahaha
  • Compared to the wonderful christians out there.......don't make me laugh!
  • Assuming you are talking about religious beliefs, atheists don't have any to push. However, I do see white shirted Mormons all over town, and people peddling The Watch Tower, and all those idiots in funny suits on TV shouting about Gwad and Jeyzusss. And we can't forget all those trying to ram Christian creationism up out public school system and into our laws...
  • hold on!! Atheist push people to become atheists? are you serious? i DON'T see atheist giving out papers, and flyer's telling people why they should not believe! but i DO see christians giving out stuff and screaming about why people should convert. I am so tired of the fact that Atheist/Agnostic's have to respects christians yet they don't show respect towards us.
  • First off, atheism refers to one belief (singular). Atheists, on the whole, do not try and push that belief onto others. If such a topic comes up we will be more than happy to display our objection to believing in deities. Another thing that would suggest that we do not try and push our belief onto others is; when was the last time you read a newspaper's headline to say 'Atheists bomb building'? We don't care if people believe the same as we do or not, if you want to believe in gods then go ahead.
  • Madelyn Murray Ohair managed to put a complete halt to prayer in school, even though many religions had previously been adequately represented before that. If that's not pushing her beliefs onto the entire nation, what is???
  • I've never met an Atheist who tried to push his/her beliefs on me. That is usually the realm of religions, and Christianity in particular. Christianity openly encourages (and in many cases requires) proselytizing (easier understood as belief-pushing). I have seen materials online that target Theists and try to convince them that they are wrong, but they pale in comparison to the sheer amount of religious proselytizing. I've also never had an Atheist come to my door, put anything on my door, call me up, send me mail, or otherwise attempt to personally contact me and change my beliefs. Most accusations of Atheist belief-pushing is actually a spin that Theists (usually Christians) put on holding government to its requirements not to establish or promote religion.
