Help answer this question below.
I had the power light blinking problem also. The screen would blink along with the green light on the front but the TV would not come on. I replaced the 2074 capacitor with a 2200uf 35v capacitor from Radio Shack and all is well. Thanks for all of the help.
Thanks jwinfree!!!!! That answer was perfect and the part (2200uf 35v) cost two bucks at Radio Shack. If anyone else is out there who has this problem....UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING/ TAKE IT TO A TV GUY WHO CAN DO IT FOR YOU.
Tell him you know what the problem is and see if he can do it.(Maybe under $150.00 for his time) I am 100% sure that there is a factory defect with this model and MAGNAVOX ain't admittin' it.(or doesn't know it) You MUST be good with a soldering gun to do this job otherwise you're asking for it.
First off, thanks for the fix! My TV had this problem for about a month and then the light finally went out totally.
My Radio Shack only had axial(leads out each end) capacitor for that rating (2200 uF), but I was able to make it work since that area of the circuit board has plenty of clearance. The Radial cap would have been better, so you may want to call ahead and make sure your RS has the radial form factor.
I'm glad for those of you who can identify and change the suspect caps. However, please remember those overpriced cheap Chinese caps your buying at Radio Shack are no better than the ones that blew up in your power supply in the first place.
I really would highly recommend Panasonic fc series. These can be ordered from Digikey for a good price and they ship fast. You have choices of different sizes with the same uf value, low esr,105c high temp, and anywhere from 2000-5000 hours before they dry up.
Just trying to help out guys.I use thse in my lcd tv's,dvd players, stereo equipment etc....they are simply excellent caps for power supplies.Hope this helps and good luck.
Still looking for help?. I am looking for lcd screen for same tv. If you dont repair your, can you sell to me as is. I need lcd screen ( front screen) Thank you
The capacitor C2074 was bad on the power supply board in mine,I replaced it with a 2200Uf at35 volts.
Amazing! My Magnavox 37" LCD TV started with this problem in January, until one day it didnt turn on again. Bummer. I started to google the problem I was having with my TV and I came across this website. I told my husband, if we have to pay $250-$300 to fix this TV, I'd rather just buy a new one. I told my husband about the capacitor change and he told me "lets try it whats the worst that could happen". He went to Radio Shack and bought the capacitor 2200uf 35v for $4.49. We took the TV apart and found the old capacitor and replaced it with the new one. We crossed our fingers, put the TV back together and crossed our fingers. We turned on the TV VIOLA!!!! TV is working beautifully!! I want to thank you all!! You saved me a BUNCH of $$$$.. =D
I'm having the same problems, and know that chan ging the capacitors will fix the problem, but no on has mentioned how difficult it is to take everything apart. I tried recently and had a very tough time figuring out how to disconnect the wires. Can you squeeze them to make them come out?
I had the same problem with my 37MF321d. First thing in the morning it would take as many as four tries to get the power to stay on. Sometimes the power light would blink for a while, then go out. Other times it would come on dim for a while, then get bright for a while and then go out. Anyway, I purchased all four capacitors that might be needed (from Digi-Key) for about $5, then tore the thing apart to see if I could fix it. It turned out that the 2200 uf and 1200 uf caps were swollen, so I replaced those two but not the 1000 uf caps because they looked OK. I was very careful (or so I thought) to make sure that all the connectors from/to the power board were fully seated, but after it was all back together there was a problem. The power came on properly, but there was no picture. Instead, the screen continually cycled from all red to all blue to all green to all white. It was really weird, and I was at a loss as to what could have happened. But I took it all back apart again and disconnected/reconnected all the cable connectors and that solved the problem. Every connector seemed to be seated properly from the first time, but apparently there was one that was not. Just wanted to pass on my experience in case someone else tries this fix and has a similar problem. You really need to double/triple check that all connector cables are fully and properly seated.
BTW, the power problem was completely fixed by replacing the two capacitors.
I have a magnavox model 37mf321d that did something very close to what you're describing.I researched the problem and found a 2200Uf at 25volts on the circuit board that the power cord plugs into blown up.I think it was C1074 but don't hold me to that number .It sets on the board by it's self not with a group of three other one's.I replaced it with a 2200Uf at 35 Volts and the TV works fine.I have been an electronics tech for around 36 years I went by a friend's TV shop and he told me it had another problem and was not worth fixing. It goes to show not everyone knows everything.I hope it's your problem because the part only costs about 50 cents.I found this fix on another sight and had nothing to lose after the TV shop had given it a death sentence.
I am having tha same problem. I replaced the capacitor with a 2200uf 35v 105 in position C2074 on the board. However, the green light is still blinking and the TV is still not turning on.
I verified that the negative (side with the stripe and - signs) is on the negative hoe in the board.
I was also told to replace C2081, which I did, and still have the same problem.
There are 2 other capacitors clumped with the C2081... 208? and 208?... don't remember what the numbers where.
I received a quote of over $300 to fix it, so that is why I did it myself.
Any ideas?

You're reading I have a magnavox lcd tv and the model number is 37mf231d/37. When I try and turn it on the the power button just flashes over and over but eventually turns on. It is only a couple months out of warranty too, so they wont fix it for free

jwinfree or anyone else that might know, is there a cover plate where the supply board is located or do you have to remove the entire back cover of the set? I have a friend that I am trying to walk through on this procedure via the telephone and I have never seen his set. Thanks in advance.
