I am not a godparent. I had a godparent and she was very kind. My grandson had a godparent who was the best and I'll never forget her. I believe the responsibility of a godparent is to ensure the child receives the indoctrination of the religion in which it is baptized and to keep it from bodily harm when necessary.

You know what, this is the reason why I don't like to be a godparent. People tend to forget that it's a great responsibility. You don't take on that task just for the heck of it. For me, you're actually required to do all those responsibilities (and more), in the event the parents themselves couldn't do those.

Yes, I take it very seriously. My godchild is just a baby. When she is older, I will make sure I am a positive influence in her life.

i am and did-and as an atheist it was a little work to teach them about the religion that they were raised in-being a godparent is something that one should think long and hard about before accepting but can make for a great friendship with the child and their life goes on-was certainly worth the work i put in-seems i did to good of a job as now they do question me all the time about my non-belief---lol---smile and enjoy the day-good question have some points

I am a godmother to an adorable 2 yr old boy, Donovan. And I'm a damn good one, too. I do take the responsibilities seriously, although with him being so young, the job isn't so difficult. Mostly just being there, and taking him for weekends so my friend and her husband can have "marriage-time" (which I do think is important.....by helping my friend make sure they have a good, loving marriage, I am helping Van grow up in a secure, loving home.) But as Van grows older, I want him to know that I am, first and foremost, his safe place. I will always be there for him, and his best interests will always be important to me.
