I will list why. Joseph Smith had a history of delving into mysterious and hidden things. He was convicted of being a "glass looker" like a fortuneteller. At age 17 Smith did not even know if there was a God but strangely, mormon leaders said "he was visited by God" at age 14.The Bible warned us beforehand about false prophets in 11 Cor11:13-15. "For such are false apostles,deceitful workers...Satan himself is tranformed into an angel of light...his ministers also"ect.We know he is a false prophet because what he claimed to hear and see contradict the Word of God."if they speak not according to THIS word,it is because there is no light in them" Isa 8:20.- -Joseph Smith blasphemes Jesus in the Doctrines of Salvation vol.2pp.133,134 ".....for the blood of Christ will not cleanse them" I guess a perfect God forgot to finish the bible because he has a short memory so he decided that after His Word was COMPLETE he would give a revalation to someone and he would forget about all the things He wrote and now contradict them eg. salvation by grace and faith alone, baptism, the part when He said "there is but one God", now HE says "we can all be Gods on our own planet", Satan really is a counterfiet! People will persecute anybody who holds a view which potentially undermines the "rightness" of their own view, if the persecutor has has identified with their own view. This is just the way self-righteousness works. There's not much you can do about it, other than to stand up for the rights of Mormons to hold their views and practice their religion. If you want to be really broad-minded, there are quite a few other groups that can use that same sort of defense as well.

I think it is because its teachings about the earthly ministry of its founders and its practice of polygamy conflicted with traditional Christian doctrine. Critics see it more a cult, than a Christian faith.

Well there are a small portion of Mormons that practice polygamy and a smaller portion of those Mormons who abuse this practice to take advantage of under-aged girls. Because of this small group of people, some people associate the entire religion with child molestation. There are evil people in every group, and although these people are often the exception, they are sometimes viewed as the rule.

Well, let's see, we are one of the fastest growing Churches in the World by convert baptisms. And just where do you think most of these people are coming from? That's right all over the world! I'm talking between 250,000, to 350,000 every year. The Christians and Catholics should be afraid of us, we are taking far more of their people than they are of ours. Could it be we just might have something that fills a spiritual need in their lives? We do not fear any other Church or people and we do not need to waste time pointing out things we find wrong with their doctrines. We just tell the people what we believe and ask them to go to the Lord for themselves and pray for a witness if the things we have told them is true or not. If they are sincere in their prayers, they will know for themselves and will want to be baptized. Doesn't sound so scary to me, but then I'm not teaching false doctrine...whew4

Satan has always concentrated his greatest efforts on anything and everything from God. . He sought the fall of Adam and Eve, and God, with foreknowledge, used his efforts to forward his own plans. . We respect Joseph Smith as a prophet. Some people say that our church and the Book of Mormon doesn't align with the Bible because of doctrinal differences. Others say that by accepting this Book of Mormon that we are somehow rejecting the Bible--which is not the case at all. For instance, we believe that the "Trinity" (we use the term "Godhead") is made up of three physically separate beings: God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit, they are one in cause. We also believe in Prophets and Apostles. We also believe that God is the Father of our spirits.
