  • The sensible and enlightened ones.
  • - Four Western European countries that have chosen not to join the EU have been partly integrated into the EU's economy; Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway are a part of the single market through the European Economic Area, and Switzerland has similar ties through bilateral treaties. The microstates' relationships[20] can include use of the euro and other co-operation Wikipedia also state: To join the EU, a country must meet the Copenhagen criteria, defined at the 1993 Copenhagen European Council. These require a stable democracy which respects human rights and the rule of law. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Union
  • Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, Vatican City State, Croatia, Serbia (+- Kosovo), Montenegro, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia, Albania, Turkey, Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus and Russia. And all the Caucasian Republics, if you consider them as part from Europe...
  • I know this is not an exact answer to your question but we live in a member country of the EU [Ireland]and they keep changing the rules! There are 27 members at the moment, and lots more waiting, and even WE don't know who is in or out. The 27 "Definitely In" countries are: The Big Six who founded the EU before we were born: (1) Belgium, (2) France, (3) Germany, (4) Italy, (5) Luxemburg, (6) Netherlands. Some of us who co-operate when it suits us: (7) Ireland, (8) United Kingdom, (9) Denmark, (10) Greece, (11) Portugal, (12) Spain. And: (13) Austria, (14) Sweden, (15) Finland, (16) Cyprus, (17) Malta, (18) Hungary, (19) Poland, (20) Romania, (21) Slovakia, (22) Latvia, (23) Estonia, (24) Lithuania, (25) Bulgaria, (26) Czech Republic, (27) Slovenia. So anything else is not EU. Norway used to be in, but they changed their minds and withdrew. Iceland, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Andorra and the Vatican also choose not to join, plus there are a few countries who are supposed to improve themselves before they're allowed to join, including Turkey, Croatia and Macedonia. Morocco wants to apply but we understand it has been rejected for not being European enough. Ditto a few "Eurovision Song Contest" countries that haven't worked out the difference! Which is to say, we can't answer this properly because we don't know what are Europe's boundaries in 2008. Parts of Russia are Western European, but the other end is more Chinese. According to our atlas, bits of us are North African and Middle East. Geography and history keep getting muddled up!
  • The majority. As a rough guide, if you take the number of members of the Council of Europe and subtract the number of countries in the EU, you'll get an idea.
  • Norway and Switzerland are the main two.
  • "- Western Europe Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein are part of the European Economic Area, inside the European Union's single market. Switzerland is outside the EEA but is connected by bilateral agreements and the European Free Trade Association. The other States are micro-states, Andorra, San Marino, Monaco and the Vatican City. All of the micro-states use the Euro as their currency. San Marino and Andorra each have a customs union with the EU, while Monaco has a customs union with France. Andorra is the only western european state to maintain border-controls with the EU. However, none of these countries has any political integration with the Union. Relations with: Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, Microstates. - Western Balkans and Turkey The western Balkans and Turkey are all candidates, or potential candidates, for Union membership. Relations with these states are governed by association agreements and their membership negotiations. These countries often participate in larger Union projects such as the Energy Community or Single European Sky. See: Enlargement of the European Union The Union has had a long standing commitment to the Western Balkans after the Community failed to develop a policy to intervene in the wars in the former Yugoslavia. That failure has spurred the development of the CFSP and expansion in the region to create stability there. - Eastern Europe Although further eastern European countries are able to join, there is little chance in the near future due to the current agenda and the stalling of the European Constitution, therefore these States, along with Mediterranean countries, participate in the European Neighbourhood Policy (with the exception of Russia). Political leaders and politicians in Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine favour eventual EU membership while others such as Belarus have often been scorned by Brussels due to poor democratic and human rights standards. Relations with: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine." • Turkey is definitivly an Asian Country (except 13 or so percent) and an islamiac country with totally different way of living. No chance for turx to be member in EU during next 15 years. And as long the Genozid on Armenian People (1 Mio. sent in desert 1916) isnt a theme for turkish politics, as long they sure get no membercard.
