  • You learn to handle stress by competing in tournaments. Children learn to deal with peer pressure and so can you at 43. Compete while you can it's not all about winning trophies, you meet and make good friends at tournaments. Yes continue.
  • TKD is not the only martial art, there are others that do not have competitions. TKD is a sporting game that is based on the much more serious Korean arts of Hapkido, Hwrangdo, and Tangsoodo. Depending on how your TKD school is being run, it may or may not be possible to stay and just focus on the big three while staying out of the TKD competitions. There are many other martial arts also ... My personal recommendations lean towards the deep internal arts that include vast amounts of health science and internal development ... such as Tai Chi Chuan and Ninjitsu ... click my avatar and read my profile ...
  • I'm not sure how your school is run, but while my school was tournament oriented, I still rarely compete. I'm just not interested. If you like the physical fitness aspect, then stick with it. Or, look around and see if you can find another school or style that better suites what you're looking for. Unfortunately, where I am there are very few other styles available within reasonable driving range. What do you like about the style and school you're involved with now?
  • If you enjoy the Sport and do not wish to compete I am sure that you can continue to enjoy yourself as a participant. keep fit too.
  • I am 30 and have been studying TaeKwonDo for about eight years. I have competed at local, state and regional levels, but I don't anymore as it doesn't interest me anymore. I still train for myself, for the sake of training. I enjoy the fitness, self defense and character building componants of training. If you enjoy the training, train.
  • I continue to train as best I can.I have "kibon 1" down,now kibon 2 which involves the same design but added kicks and different blocks! I am enjoying it but those kicks!? Phew!
