Cecilia Bartoli Sarah Brightman Renée Fleming There are some professional entertainers who are trained as Opera singers, but don't "do" operas in their current careers: Sheryl Crow, Lauren Ambrose, Amy Lee (of Evanescense.) There are also a few singers who perform Opera Arias, but are not true opera singers: Celine Dion, Charlotte Church, etc. This last one is the category I fall into. I sing professionally and do sing some opera arias, but I am *not* an opera singer. Suffice it to say that if one goes to music school to be a singer, one has had a class or two in opera. I'm guessing that you're thinking of something very popular such as, "Nessun Dorma." If you can tell us the context (series, movie, commercial,) perhaps we can be of more help.
