  • There worse than that. Just domestically, sewerage systems are running in some places at 200% of capacity because the"NEW" government has not given any funds to this. Power stations are cutting of power in the Cape for two to four hours every other day because the ycannot cope. The people of South Africa still pay tax towards financing the Angolan/Namibian war, which eneded years ago. So where is all that money going. The same as the rest of Africa, in pockets of people who are not interested in the people of the country but just with lining theirs.
  • Problem is that there's a deep seeded hatred in this country. Even pure criminal acts are tagged hate crime.....I'm black, I hate racism by many of my white countrymen, but I still don't believe that that young man killed because of racial hatred. I believe that he would still have done so if there were whites grouped together as those blacks are.....
  • If racism is behind, it's sad. Just because the government members don't hate, others still do. Noone can't know what everybody does. There are racists in most countries.
  • I've never been and know little on the subject but I have an SA mate who says it is. I tend to believe him.
  • It's like any other place in the world - dealing with the legacy of its past while trying to build a better future. Every place in the world has its problems, and things from its past that it still struggles to deal with. Racism is not lurking around every corner, as you may suspect. In fact, it's probably less prevalent here now than many places in the world. BUT with so many socio-economic inequalities to sort out, it will be a while before the past has no impact. I guess when I see high school shootings and the war in Iraq and George W Bush, it seems to me that the US has lost its marbles and that things must be terrible there. Which is also a skewed impression, I'm sure. So I guess I can understand the viewpoint :)
