I've never seen apple, but the flavours of grapes and cheese complement each other in the same way as Christmas cake and a nice chunk of Wensleydale complement each other.

It's the acidity and the sweetness of the fruit that cuts through the fatiness of the cheese. It also brings out the flavour of the cheeses wonderfully!! MMMM!!! =P
