Question is a little confusing, as it would depend on that perticular transmission. Such as with ten speed transmission you would start in first and once you needed to go to sixth, raise the switch to high and go into sixth up to 10. It is different in a super ten as you would only have to shift 5 times, splitting each gear. As you go up in gears it gets more complicated, in a thirteen speed you would have a lo, but could start in first unless heavily loaded. Go through the pattern. But in a thirteen speed you are only able to split the lower gears, 1-5. You can see it gets more complicated the more gears you get. In an 18 speed you can split all the gears. In an Eaton Auto shift, the transmission automatically shifts the top two gears for you. So it all depends on which transmission you have and what your hauling. There is often a time where you can "skip gears" also.

regardless of the number of gears, run rpm til just slightly below the rpm that the truck quits pulling usually 15-1700,all the next items will b done fairly quickly because the rpm range either up or down is apox 400 rpm is 400 rpm, step on clucth, take truck out of gear rev enginge apox 400 rpm, step on clutch put truck n next higher gear, this is double clutching, its basically the same for all transmisions except automatics

I just want to say that you do not split gears on a super 10. They are actual full gears being shifted. Split gears are half gears. Second, 13 and 15 speed transmissions split your high range gears only, not gears 1-5. Most all trucks shift in this pattern; upper left position is reverse. Pull straight down is your lowest forward gear, move to neutral then upper center, then straight down, then neutral and move to far upper right then straight down. With a super 10, you would start in lowest forward position and your gear selector (a little gray slide switch on the left side of the shifter handle) slid back and around 1400 rpm, slide your gear selector forward until around 1600 rpm, then release fuel pedal and when you feel it shift or when the rpm stops dropping rapidly (usually around 1200 rpm) hit the throttle again. Then around 1400 rpm, slide your gear selector back toward you and around 1600 rpm, release fuel pedal and clutch to the next gear. Gear selector won't change gears till you release the fuel pedal and if you're going down hill, the tension on the transmission from the engine may not allow the gear to shift even after releasing the fuel pedal. You may need to hit the fuel again and then release or shove the clutch in to relieve the tension.
In a straight 10, go through all the low range gears, 1-5 in the order mentioned earlier and then while still in 5th, before you clutch, pull the range selector (a lever on the front of the shifter handle that goes up and down) up and shift the pattern all over again.
In a nine speed, you only use the lowest forward gear in low range only. After 5th gear, move the stick in the upper center position.
In a thirteen speed, you only use the lowest forward gear in low range like a 9 speed and the remainder 4 high range gears get split in the same method as a super 10, except the rpm's will fall to around 1350 after shifting because these are half gears.
A fifteen speed shifts like a straight 10 with all 5 high range gears being split.
An eighteen speed shifts like a 9 speed with all 9 gears being split.
