  • I've never heard of making your own tennis racket, but I can tell you that rackets today are made from a mold. They are comprised of mostly graphite (about 85%) as well as other materials, which may be metal, titanium, carbon, wood, or aluminum. Grommet strips are placed around the head of the racket to protect the strings, which are installed in a separate event.
  • If you find a way to do it yourself, I'd like to know as well. I've been thinking about making my own racquet and figured it would require machinery that is a bit out of my price range. Then I remembered an article I read back in the early 90s about the Wilson Profile. That was the racquet that sparked the wide-body movement. I remember the designer made his prototype from solid wood. Just to get started I thought I might develop my own solid wood prototype since I have the tools necessary for wood working.
