It's possible that either: 1 - The battery overheated and damaged the SIM 2 - There was a surge and the SIM was fried Or you could just have a dodgy SIM card

sim cards should last a heck of alot longer than 6 months, i once had the same sim card for over 5 years, i just kept putting it in a different phone whenever i got a new one, and i cant see how overcharging would affect the sim, take it to a phone dealer and speak to them about it

No and no. The most likely problem is the phones sim card reader. It could be a short or a contact problem. I advise getting a new phone as that is almost a year old.

The SIM card might have been jostled out of place. That's happened to me. I had to open the phone and reinsert the SIM card.
